Chasing & Assembly
The metal castings emerge from the ceramic shells with the gates still attached and, like all cast materials, with certain surface imperfections and blemishes that must be removed. Many complex items are also comprised of multiple individual castings that require assembly. The gates are first cut off and rough resurfacing work done with a variety of metalworking tools and techniques. Next, fine surfacing and detail work will be completed. Machining and assembly work will also be completed at this stage using a number of machine tools along with welding and soldering. Once the castings are are surfaced, detailed and assembled, they will be sent for finishing. Here, a part of a cast urn is surfaced before being assembled.
